for that particular position. “There’s a list of
‘must have’ qualifications and a ‘wish list’
of abilities that the credit union would like the candidate
to have,” she says. Over the years, the two lists have
changed. Technical skills used to be the prerequisites for hiring,
but now it is more often the “soft” skills that
are required. “Credit unions are happier to do the training,
because they have found that skills can be taught, but if the
candidate doesn’t fit with the team, that’s far
more difficult to correct,” says Heep. ”
