"Without some time to chase
personal dreams and fulfill parental, filial and marital roles,
employees call in sick, arrive late, take more prescription
drugs (on the company plan), and visit the doctor more frequently.
These costs may be relatively easy for a company to quantify.
But the costs of job dissatisfaction and lack of organizational
commitment, while more difficult to measure, may be much higher.
According to Duxbury, only half of the employees surveyed were
satisfied with their job, highly committed to their employer,
or viewed their organization as “an above average place
to work.”
